Korah Collegiate Students Host Community Consignment Thrift Sale
Students in the Fashion program at Korah Collegiate and Vocational School are inviting the community to participate in a Community Consignment Thrift Sale on April 30 from 4–7 p.m. in the school’s small gym. This event is part of a new Fashion course where students have spent the semester exploring intentional style, individuality, and sustainable fashion practices.
The students have focused on sourcing quality garments through thrifting and transforming existing pieces using upcycling techniques such as embroidery, patchwork, and hand painting. Cathi Baber, Korah’s Visual Arts and Fashion teacher, shared her enthusiasm for the students' work: “Students have really connected with this assignment. I'm blown away by the items they have created and continue to create on their own time. It has been incredible to see their excitement and personal creativity take off.”
Event Details and Community Involvement
To extend this learning beyond the classroom, students are organizing a community-wide consignment sale. Community members can contribute gently used clothing items, which the students will sort, price, and merchandise for the event. Clothing drop-off is scheduled for Wednesday, April 22, from 4–7 p.m. at 636 Goulais Ave. Participants will receive 50 percent of the sale price, with the remaining proceeds supporting the school’s Fashion program.
The event not only offers an opportunity to refresh wardrobes affordably but also encourages the community to reconsider clothing consumption and reduce textile waste. Following the thrift sale, the community is invited to a Red Carpet Movie Night featuring The Devil Wears Prada. The red carpet experience begins at 7:30 p.m., with a photo opportunity for guests before the film starts at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the red carpet and showcase their personal style. Tickets are $10, with proceeds supporting the Fashion program and funding future student opportunities, including a planned trip.
Media are invited to attend the event, speak with students, and view their upcycled designs and creative work firsthand.
